Okeechobee "Full Moon" Set
This past weekend at Okeechobee Music and Art festival in Florida an extremely special event occurred and I wish I could of witnessed it. The very well known producer Bassnectar had the opportunity to curate an entire mini event on the night of the full moon. This event took place right on the beach with the ocean right behind him. He didn't want any crazy lights, visuals, or even phones to record. He just wanted people everywhere coming together to hear the music and appreciate the full moon.
To start this event he had Dj Thriftworks start the party with a very down-tempo set to get everyone in the mood. After Thriftworks came a band named Opiou who got a little funky and got the crowd hyped up for Bassnectar. I think this event was so special because normal Bassnectar events consist of heavy bass, tons of lasers and sick visuals to go along with it. This time he wanted nothing but the stars for light and for everyone to sit down and just appreciate where they were.
Bassnectar had made a post on twitter talking about the event and he said " SO READY FOR OKEECHOBEE: Thursday kicking off 2018 with a freestyle full moon party in the dark- lights and lasers by the moon and the stars.." It's so refreshing when an artist wants people from miles and miles around to come together and appreciate music and the world around them. Here's a link of the set opener if you want to check it out! Bassnectar full moon opener

The new "Live Band" trend?
Live bands in the music scene has always been a popular thing. But now dj's are starting to include this "live band" idea into their own kind of thing. A lot of artists such as Pretty Lights starting doing a live band style set a few years ago and it's a really cool thing to see live. The idea of a live band is having the Dj still on the soundboard creating all of the background electronic sounds, while an entire band plays along with it. It truly is an awesome experience.
I had seen Pretty Lights before with just himself putting on the show. But then I witnessed the live band and it blew me away. A lot of artists now such as GRIZ creating a live band experience just this year. He debuted it at Red Rocks Amphitheater this summer and it was a hit from everyone. Just yesterday I saw a post from Electric Forest saying that Boogie T an extremely popular dj was debuting his live band called "Boogie T.rio" this summer at Electric Forest. This is so cool because no one would have ever guessed that would of happened! Boogie T is known for a dubstep style known as riddim, but he also plays the electric guitar so the whole experience should be awesome.
I'll be there to check it out at Electric Forest in June! I personally prefer instruments over an entire electronic sound. But, I love electronic music so when both instruments and bass come together.. it's the perfect mix. I'll post some popular live bands below so you guys can check them out ;)
